Croatia beach fun, hiking Plitivice Lakes and soaking it all in

September brought us to Croatia.  Here we found our bliss with sand between our toes, Istrian seafood and olive oil.  http://www.bluedanubewine.com/regions/croatia/  This sight has some good info on Croatian wine if you are curious. Imagine, white, crisp freshness accompanied with the most fresh seafood and Italy’s amazing pasta. I thought I died and went to heaven.  And that _IGP9980was just the degustation portion. Then you add to that the beaches, the ocean and the stunning Plitvice Lakes.  This UNESCO sight http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/98  is so eye popping gorgeous.  Every bend in the path leads to another waterfall or crystal clear lake teaming with fishes and ducks and birds.  Croatia was the sort of place you know you would go every year if you could. It recalibrates the mind and body, bringing one back to nature and at the same time spoiling you with abundance!

Berlin by train

IMGP1410We took advantage of our furloughed time and caught a train to Berlin recently.  The ride was awesome. We picnicked, read and watched movies. When in Berlin we were entertained by many walks and scooter rides through the park. We hit all the sights and road with Fat Tire Bike tours.  We even spent a day at the zoo and hit a kitschy antique market just for fun.

Bordeaux, France Wine Tasting with Friends

What a great week. Criswell’s planned a superb wine tasting experience in Bordeaux, France for us all.  The children had a blast with Miss Meghan.  CJ and I cooked up some good grub and we enjoyed some lovely French cooking and delights as usual.  God love France!

We even squeezed in some pool time and a bike ride to round it out.  All in all a fantastic week in a lovely place.

Ireland at Last

It has been WAY too long since I have been back to Ireland.  God I love it. Even when it pisses rain and the wind howls.  The music, the food, the sheep, the green countryside…the ice-cream . HOLY MOLY, that was a new treat.  Murphy’s Ice Cream was not there in ’97 when I was studying communication in Ulster.  Even though the weather did not call for ice-cream we ate it daily once we got ahold of that Dingle Sea Salt and Irish Cream flavor combo.  Seriously it was better than gelato in Rome.  Then you add to that the sheer joy on Gloria and Liam’s faces in seeing Fungi the wild dolphin.  This 30 year old plus wild dolphin made us work for a sighting but it was worth it. We nearly froze our fingers and noses on the rainy, windy boat, but when Fungi came alongside jumping and smiling in a race against our boat, it was all worth it.  What a lovely added bonus to a weekend filled with great sights, tastes and sounds!

12 Day Cruise of Europe

Wow, what a whirlwind!  We just returned from a 12 day cruise that was quite exhausting but full of history, laughter and tons of photo opps.  CJ and I had a blast with our cameras!  What’s not to love about the leaning tower of Pisa, a Greek Island, Istanbul Mosques, Pompeii, the Amalfi coast, Sorrento, Ephesus with its Pergamon, the intellectual center of Aisa Minor with the greatest libraray of antiquity…  The temples of Tragan and Dionisus, the Alter of Zeus , the Asclepion ( an ancient healing center)?  That did not even count Athens with the Acropolis.  Throw in a beginning in Barcelona, an end in Venice and a first stop in Toulon, France for sunshine and a picnic with a lovely French wine, bread and cheese and one asks why are we so lucky?  It was definitely a time of indulgence.

For the first time in our European tour we were able to leave babies in a safe loving environment and really hit the pavement, so to speak.  Gloria and Liam joined us in Mykonos to feed the birds and eat Greek food.  They came along to Athens and of course spent time in Barcelona and window shopping and boat riding in Venice. But during other port stops they were given the choice of staying on board with Charlie’s Child care or touring with us.  The pull for snacks, face painting and other creative projects was a bigger draw than touring with Mom and Dad through some old churches, ruins and sights.

Double win for us!  When returning to the boat we felt invigorated and ready for pool time, a fun dinner and evening entertainment.  Every day was a fun day, even the sailing days.  We exercised, played as a family in the pool, brought our walkie talkies and played hide and seek.  All and all it was a great trip.  When asked what our favorite sights or places were it makes for a difficult answer.  I loved Greece and would go back in a minute.  I felt our time in Florence, Italy was much too short and of course one cannot do Rome in a day so I was glad we had already been there and done that, so to speak.  Istanbul was amazing but busy and I was happy to return to the Norwegian Spirit.  Our day at Pompeii and on the Amalfi coast was superb.  The people, the coast line, the food, the history- all magnificent!

So without any more chattering on I will let you take a tour through a sampling of photos.  Some were taken by Liam, Gloria or CJ and a few are my pictures too.  See if you can guess who took what photos?

Austria In Review

Frandrup_2013_2015 Frandrup_2013_1674 Frandrup_2013_1987 Frandrup_2013_1990 Frandrup_2013_2003Today we are back in Bann and looking back at a great week in the Alps.  Austria was awesome and to top it off the abundant snow fall added a layer of additional fun.  With over two feet of fresh powder in a couple days we were finding plenty of pristine powder on the mountain.  CJ and I played with powder skis for two days as we floated between trees and down the sides of bumpy white covered terrain with hoots and giggles the whole way!  Gloria had a blast skiing like a big girl and earning a medal in her first ever down hill ski race;)  William also earned a medal for his ski school completion and they came home with a treasure trove of art projects and trinkets from their time at the Bobo Kinder- Club.  We are already dreaming of when we can go back to Zauchensee, Austria!

Skiing in Austria

Wow, what an awesome few days! The snow has been falling for over 36 hours now and the accumlation is making for some fun powder on the mountain. Gloria participated in her first down hill ski race today and later I caught her in action on the mountain with her class.

William finished his week of lessons with Miss Alma and earned himself his first medal.

While lessons were taking place CJ and I had some big fun off piest with Jon, Mark and Jon’s two girls.

…such a fun day!

Porto, Portugal

With a lack of sunshine and cold germs keeping us down here in Germany we decided to hit the sunshine in Porto this last weekend. We discovered lovely seafood, friendly people, awesome Port wines and plenty of fun things to explore!

Rome baby!

So, we decided we better hit Rome since our time may be running out on living in Europe.  CJ already took a 25% pay cut and by March 1st if the Government cannot get things sorted out he will get another 20% hit.  Fun times!  So, we are doing what?  TRAVELING!  First up, ROME!

Barcelona with the ladies

My friend Cristina planned a lovely trip to Barcelona. How I got so lucky to join her I do not know.  The food was amazing, the architecture and art was stunning and the time with girls, sans children, was priceless!  This is just a few of my pics, I gave up after seeing what Cris was getting with her camera.  …more to come…
