Ireland at Last

It has been WAY too long since I have been back to Ireland.  God I love it. Even when it pisses rain and the wind howls.  The music, the food, the sheep, the green countryside…the ice-cream . HOLY MOLY, that was a new treat.  Murphy’s Ice Cream was not there in ’97 when I was studying communication in Ulster.  Even though the weather did not call for ice-cream we ate it daily once we got ahold of that Dingle Sea Salt and Irish Cream flavor combo.  Seriously it was better than gelato in Rome.  Then you add to that the sheer joy on Gloria and Liam’s faces in seeing Fungi the wild dolphin.  This 30 year old plus wild dolphin made us work for a sighting but it was worth it. We nearly froze our fingers and noses on the rainy, windy boat, but when Fungi came alongside jumping and smiling in a race against our boat, it was all worth it.  What a lovely added bonus to a weekend filled with great sights, tastes and sounds!

Bike rides, local fun and Last days of Space Camp

It has finally felt like summer here, although intermittently I must admit   80 on Sat and iffy on Sunday and cool/rainy today…not sure what this German Summer has in store. We are making the most of it none the less. We have taken two bike rides that were over 20 km each. One was along the river near our home heading toward Waldfishbach and this last weekend we drove the bikes up to Bingen to ride along the scenic Rhine River.  We had a blast both days and Liam has even jumped on the back of the tag along to pedal like a big guy- pretty cool for a 3.5 year old!
